Danish teachers in Kaiserslautern

Kaiserslautern, 23.06.2010

Kaiserslautern schools and institutions welcomed teachers coming from the Danish sister city of Silkeborg who stayed in Kaiserslautern from 9 to 12 July 2010. The project delegation of “Building Bridges” visited Kaiserslautern in the framework of their first joint European project within the European Commission’s programme “Comenius Regio”
In April 2010 German teachers from Kaiserslautern had been to Silkeborg.

“The project’s major priority is to improve opportunities of integration for children with a migration background” Joachim Färber, councillor and Head of Schools Section explained the intention. Additionally the cooperation of schools’ administrations, local schools and organisations working with children with different migration backgrounds is to be intensified.

“In the field of schools Kaiserslautern and SiIkeborg intend to develop, introduce and test new teaching materials for multicultural classes.” Peter Krietemeyer, director of the department of schools stated. The main focus will be on pupils coming from weak socio economic regions. The first visit to Kaiserslautern was dedicated to becoming familiar with each other: The Förderschule Fritz-Walter, the Schule auf dem Bännjerrück, the Integrierte Gesamtschule Bertha-von-Suttner(comprehensive school) , the Jugend-und Programmzentrum JUZ (youth and programme centre ), the Medienzentrum (media centre) Kaiserslautern as well as the Caritas-Zentrum-Kaiserlautern, who work tightly together with the Grundschule Fischerrück (elementary school).

“I am very glad the joint European Project can proceed to an active phase now and that it was possible to visit all the project partners in Kaiserslautern“ Joachim Färber said.
