Kaiserslautern Zoo lies in the southwest part of the City. It is an oasis of calm in which to experience nature, relaxation and many interesting things.

Kaiserslautern Zoo, which opened in 1968 as "Tierpark Siegelbach", has been modernized since its establishment as corporation in 2003. The zoo is the third pillar, along with the Gartenschau and Kammgarn, responsible for the development of 'soft' locational factors for the city of Kaiserslautern.

Currently, the seven-acre zoo is home to 631 animals of over 110 species. The zoo has made it its mission to familiarize people with protecting species and the natural world through animal welfare, the representation of habitats, animal activity, intensive information, zoo education and youth work. The playground for our younger visitors, along with the nature adventure trail and zoo restaurant will round off a full day of experiences at Kaiserslautern Zoo.

Kaiserslautern Zoo is oriented towards the planned expansion of the EU Directives and the World Conservation Strategy, in which it is firmly established that the habitats of individual species should be expanded in zoos of the future.

Creation of new habitats

  • for our monkeys and reptiles: "On the banks of the Amazon"
  • for our pigs/goats/horses: the "Palatinate farm"
  • for our camels/donkeys/llamas: "Farm animals around the world"
  • for our mink and otters: an "Alder carr"
  • for our hawks: the "Falcon" habitat

Emperor Frederick II's book "De arte venandi cum avibus" (On the Art of Hunting with Birds) is remembered even to this day at our falcon habitat. If you want to know more about falconry, our falconer will be able to tell you a great deal.

The flying demonstrations will be held from April to October, every day except Mondays at 11:00 am and 3:00 pm.
So that you can get a practical insight into Kaiserslautern Zoo, it frequently offers specialized guided tours. These often go down well with our youngest visitors on birthdays or in the course of daycare. For the benefit of our partners from the US, the zoo also offers guided tours in English.
Our "Park with Animals" is to soon be developed into a leisure and relaxation area  and will be indispensible to the inhabitants of Kaiserslautern.
