The sewing machine will be replaced by the computer chip

The signs of a living industrial metropolis could not be overlooked. The smokestacks shot up like asparagus into the air and covered the innocent community with soot. But this image has in the mean time fundamentally changed.

The city has recognized the signs of the time: Fully closed industrial areas with direct connections to highways, Autobahns and the railway of the German Rail connect Kaiserslautern with the economic centers Rhine-Main, Rhine-Heckar, France and Saar-Lor-Lux serve as important location factors.

Of course the city sprawls with its benefices, two Fraunhofer Institutes, the new Max Planck Institute, the Technical University (ca. 8,700 students) and the University of Applied Sciences in Kaiserslautern (ca. 3,300 students). New sciences and the intensive cooperation with business ensure future-oriented inpulses and the founding of numerous innovative businesses. In the PRE Park in the east of the city, new companies with future perspectives have arisen. Lautern is growing - and somehow you have the feeling that the positive change in the city in the past few years has also had an effect on the economy. Or vice versa.
