Traffic
In comparison to many other cities, Kaiserslautern is a paradise for drivers. At most during rush hour there can be some traffic jams. Looking for a parking place can at most be difficult in the time before Christmas.
The city has a new, dynamic parking management system which corresponds to the state-of-the-art technology. When entering the city, direction signs point out the system. This parking management system offers ongoing current information about the number of free parking places using a three digit direct display. With this, the connected 2,400 parking places in nine underground parking lots, parking garages and parking spaces can be efficiently used and the inconvenience of looking for a parking space can be avoided. Further parking garages are being planned.
The "Lauterer Parking Model" has developed excellently. With this, the first half of an hour of parking on the 6,000 parking spaces is free of charge. You do need a parking card which is available in numerous shops and at many institutions in the inner city. "Regular" parking is rather cheap with EUR 0.50 for the first hour and 0.50 for each further half of an hour. Since most of the meter maids are very conscientious about their work, you should always make sure that you have bought your parking ticket.
