Since 1 January 2003, municipality largely backed out from care of the zoological garden of Siegelbach, which was founded in 1968. Since then, the zoo is a GmbH - with the name Zoo-Gesellschaft Kaiserslautern mbH.
The zoo of Kaiserslautern is a popular destination in the western outskirts of the city of Kaiserslautern, and together with the two other companies - the one in charge of the garden exhibition, and Kammgarn GmbH - it is the third of the pillars that are responsible for development of the soft location factors of the city of Kaiserslautern. At the moment, the zoo owns on its area of approx. 17 acres approx. 115 animal species and 415 wild and domestic animals. The playground with a nature adventure trail for our young visitors as well as restaurant round off the adventurous day in the zoo of Kaiserslautern.
Perspective: The Zoo-Gesellschaft has to manage a wide field of activity - actual operation of the zoo, support of scientific research at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern and cooperation with working groups and institutions of animal protection. This union of all involved parties was achieved with the establishment of an advisory board, in which all members support the Zoo-Gesellschaft Kaiserslautern on account of joint cooperation.
The Zoo-Gesellschaft Kaiserslautern takes very seriously all EU guidelines as well as global nature protection strategy, which all lay down the possible future constructions of habitats of the individual animal species in the zoo. The planning concept Zoo 2000 will double the size of the zoo of Kaiserslautern and future habitats will be extended in the next 10 years.

In order to gain a realistic insight into the zoo of Kaiserslautern, the zoo of Kaiserslautern steadily offers professionally guided tours, which are also well accepted by children on the occasion of children birthday parties or by kindergartens.
The Zoo of Kaiserslautern instensively and constructively cooperates with the Gesellschaft zur Förderung des Tierparks Kaiserslautern - Siegelbach e.V., which autonomously built a complete aviary. The "park for animals” will soon develop into a leisure time and recreation area and thus will become an essential element for the citizens of the city of Kaiserslautern.
