A production by the Office of Arts of the City of Kaiserslautern in cooperation with the Atlantic Academy of the Rhineland-Palatinate e.V., the US Consulate General, the Technical Universty of Kaiserslautern and the Union Studio of Film Art.
Intolerance
In his almost three-hour-long silent film "Intolerance", the director, scriptwriter and producer David Wark Griffin (1875-1948) presents a great, unfortunately eternally valid and terrible subject with monumental picture worlds, revolutionary in their film technique. In his cinema epos, it is a matter of injustice and unfairness on Earth. He chooses for this a narrative technique in four parallel episodes: the Destruction of Babylon, the Massacre of the Huguenots, the Crucifixion of Jesus and the then topical situation of a boy in the last minutes of his life, facing the gallows. Carl Davis's live music, composed in 1986, underlines discreetly and suggestively the lines of action. The German State Philharmonic of the Rhineland-Palatinate, conducted by Stefanos Tsialis, performs the appropriate transposition into real time.
